Connie Windes Zieba, Alpha Gamma Delta

Connie graduated from Texas Tech University with a major in History and minoring in English. After graduation, Connie and her husband, John-David Zieba, moved to Houston where he began his career, first as an Electrical Engineer, and later in Sales, specializing in process-control systems for the chemical plants and oil companies. Connie worked for many years as the Houston City Sales Representative for Bantam Doubleday Dell.

Connie became a member of Alpha Gamma Delta, Upsilon Chapter, at the University of Oklahoma. This is the same chapter shared by Connie’s mother and several other relatives. Connie’s paternal grandmother briefly resided at the Upsilon chapter house as the housemother in the sixties and her father served as Dad's Club President in the eighties. Alpha Gamma Delta is quite definitely a family affair.

Connie developed a lifelong devotion to Alpha Gamma Delta through her mother, Elizabeth, who has been active in the Upsilon (Norman) Alumnae Chapter from the time she graduated to the present and has served both locally and internationally.

Early in their marriage, the Ziebas had the good fortune to adopt two Pomeranian puppies. These pups, named Keoki and Kalima, would start them on a way of life they couldn’t have imagined - joining Flyball Teams, competing in Agility, showing in Conformation, and volunteering their time and resources in Rescue work.

They served as Presidents and on the Boards of the local and national Pomeranian and Toy Fox Terrier Clubs, and Connie wrote regularly for a variety of dog-related magazines, as well as editing several books about Toy Fox Terriers and Pomeranians. They continue to be dog-lovers and revolve their family activities around their circle of dogs.

Connie is an active member of the Houston Alumnae Club of Alpha Gamma Delta, having served as Permanent Secretary and Outreach Chairman. One of her proudest accomplishments is the establishment of the “Syracuse Triad Scholarship, Honoring Alpha Phi, Gamma Phi Beta, and Alpha Gamma Delta”. The scholarship has been awarded every year since its inception in 2012.

In addition to funds donated by the Houston Alumnae Club, Connie is responsible for raising the funds necessary for the Alpha Gamma Delta portion of the Syracuse Triad Scholarship. She makes it a priority to reach out to the collegians from the Greater Houston area who could benefit from winning the Syracuse Triad Scholarship or any of the other scholarships offered by HAPF.

The women of HAPA, who belong to other sororities, are very supportive of this scholarship, donating funds and/or attending the Alpha Gamma Delta "Wine Review" fundraisers.

Connie feels this is one more example of how supportive and generous the members of HAPA are. She feels the scholarship has not only benefitted Alpha Gamma Delta women, and women of other sororities, but has drawn the members of the participating alumnae groups together.

In 2014, Connie became a member of Clear Lake Area Panhellenic Association, where she has served as Historian, Program Advertising Chair, and “Spring Fling” Co-Chair. She joined Houston Junior Forum in 2011, sponsored by Sue Brennig and Kay Newman, and has been an active member, serving as Recording Secretary, Yearbook Chair, and Program Chair.

In 2015, she chaired the annual fundraiser, “Conversations from the Heart”. One of the things she loves best about the Forum is being able to spend time with her HAPA friends, who also have membership in HJF, at both sets of meetings and events. Houston Junior Forum embraces many of the same goals as HAPA, chiefly community service and scholarships.

In 2005, Connie joined the Board of the Houston Alumnae Panhellenic Association (HAPA), serving as Recording Secretary for two years. She was welcomed by Alpha Gamma Delta sister, Shirley Kraus, who quickly became her mentor, friend, and “Houston-mother”. She quickly realized how exceptional the women are who are active in HAPA. She shares the vision of these women and wants to do everything she can to support HAPA’s mission, as well as the mission of its Foundation. Connie has thoroughly enjoyed every office she has held. Some of her favorites are Community Service Chair, Historian, Scholarship Selection Chair, Second Vice President, Wine Tasting Chair, Ways & Means Co-Vice Chair & Co-Chair, HAPF Development Chair, and HAPF Recording Secretary

In 2014, Connie and John-David were honored at the Annual HAPF Wine Tasting Event as the Guests of Honor. She served as the President of Houston Alumnae Panhellenic Foundation (HAPF) in 2016-2017. Connie completed two terms as a Trustee of the Foundation. In 2017, she entered the rotation to become the HAPA President, representing her alumnae group. The officer rotation includes service as Treasurer (2017-2018), First Vice President (2018-2019), President (2019-2020), and, finally, Parliamentarian/Nominating Chair (2020-2021). She considers this a great honor and hopes to serve the members of HAPA well. Connie was named a Citation Member in 2014, followed by designation as an Honorary Board Member in 2017.

John-David has been a big part of everything Connie has done in HAPA. He knows the names and faces of HAPA and how the organization works, just as well as she does. He supports the goals of HAPA/HAPF and enjoys spending time with the extended HAPA group. Becoming HAPA/HAPF Webmaster in 2009 is something she considers to be a privilege. She loves to make updates and improvements and finds her best ideas through the recommendations of the HAPA/HAPF members.

She feels the strength of HAPA/HAPF lies in its members and feels fortunate to be a part of this fine organization.
