Amazing
Insights Into College Basketball

Lauren Sampson, Director of External Operations,
University of Houston Men’s Basketball

Lauren Sampson joined the University of Houston Men’s Basketball program in the summer of 2016 as Director for External Operations. 

In that role, she oversees the publicity of the Houston Men’s Basketball program and supervises a variety of team functions every year.  She is an initiate of the Epsilon Alpha chapter of Chi Omega at the University of Oklahoma. 

Lauren has amazing and enthusiastic insights into college basketball to share with us.  She comes from basketball royalty, too!

Hottest Reads for Fall and Popular Young Adult Books

Valerie Koehler, Owner, Blue Willow Bookshop

Valerie and her husband bought the Blue Willow Bookshop in 1996 and it’s become the “go to” independent bookstore in Houston for birthday parties, author/book signings and outstanding customer service.

Valerie will regale us with the hottest reads for this fall, and give us some insight into to ever-popular Young Adult books.

The Lively Arts Scene in Houston

Dr. Andrew Davis, Dean, Kathrine G. McGovern College of the Arts,
University of Houston

Andrew Davis is the Founding Dean of the Kathrine G. McGovern College of the Arts.  He has been on the faculty of the Moores School of Music since 2003.  He has held almost every leadership position in the Moores School of Music and serves as an Associate Dean in the UH Honors College.

Dr. Davis was Co-Chair of the university-wide committee charged with bringing a chapter of Phi Beta Kappa to the University of Houston.  He will fill us in on the lively arts scene in Houston and at UH in particular.

Valentine’s Day


Lisa Cushing, Owner, Petals by Design

Petals by Design is owned and operated by Lisa Cushing.  Lisa has over 14 years of floral arrangement and design experience and specializes in weddings.  She will give us tips on designing beautiful flower arrangements for Valentine’s Day. 

Lisa is a graduate of the University of Houston where she was a member of the Cougar Marching Band and currently serves as Secretary of the Spirit of Houston/Cougar Marching Band Alumni Association.

Exciting Houston
Internships in Communications

Laura Ashley, Internship Coordinator and Instructional Assistant Professor,
University of Houston Valenti School of Communication

Laura is the expert when it comes to internships in general and specifically in the communication field in Houston.  Students at the Valenti School of Communication have the benefit of studying and interning in the country's fourth largest city.

Houston offers many sectors for students to intern, including print and broadcast journalism, agency work, professional sports, healthcare, production studios, and non-profit associations.

Laura is returning home to HAPA – she represented her sorority, Alpha Delta Pi, at the HAPA meetings back in the mid-1990s when she was a graduate student at UH.
