Local Philanthropies and Community Service

Sixty-seven local philanthropies are funded by the over 5,000 sorority women in Houston. Over $3 million have been raised in the past five years. In addition, Panhellenic and its member groups have raised over $250,000 for The Houston Alumnae Panhellenic Foundation since its inception. Scholarships from the Foundation have been awarded to Houston college women.

Panhellenic members give 140 community service hours annually to the Reading Is Fundamental program at Spring Branch Elementary School through Partners in Education. Books are collected for the Library and funds exceeding $1,000 per year have been donated.

Locally, over 16,000 volunteer hours were given to sorority and Panhellenic philanthropic efforts.

HOUSTON ALUMNAE PANHELLENIC FOUNDATION
Supported by Houston Alumnae Panhellenic Association and its Member Sororities,
the Houston Alumnae Panhellenic Foundation was organized in 1987 exclusively for charitable and educational purposes, specifically, the provision of scholarship aid to deserving college and university students. The foundation fulfills its purposes by hosting a fund-raising luncheon each spring, the proceeds of which fund scholarships for deserving Harris County residents who attend accredited colleges or universities, and are members of National Panhellenic Conference sorority chapters at such schools. The foundation also accepts donations throughout the year from individuals, sorority alumnae groups and local companies. The foundation has been recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as a Section 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charity.
