Merry Westbrook Adamcik, Delta Zeta

 

Merry is a native Houstonian who was initiated into the Delta Theta chapter of Delta Zeta sorority at the University of Houston.  She served her college chapter as Scholarship (now Academics) Chair and President.  She was a member of the Honors Program, Mortar Board, Who’s Who in American Colleges & Universities, and was recognized as a Top Ten Student at the University of Houston.  She served as President of SPARKS, a women’s spirit organization and an Orientation Advisor.  She was recognized by Delta Zeta as a Grace Mason Lundy award winner, one of six outstanding senior collegians in the nation.  She graduated with honors with a Bachelor of Science in mathematics and a minor in computer science. Following her graduation she was hired by Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in their management training program, holding various positions.  Her career transitioned to AT&T following the divestiture of the Bell System and then to Lucent Technologies, Inc. holding a variety of management positions along the way. Merry continued to be involved in Delta Zeta, serving for five years as College Chapter Director (1976-81) for the University of Houston collegiate chapter, and then at the province level as Province Collegiate Director for six years (1981-1987), supervising college chapters in Texas and New Mexico.   She was recognized as Southwest Sister of the Year in 2009 at the Region XII Weekend.  She was elected to Delta Zeta’s National Council in 1987, serving for eight years.  She served as National Director, National Secretary, and National Vice President of Collegians.  At the 2018 Delta Zeta National Convention, Merry was one of six past national officers to be named as a Distinguished Past National Officer for long and dedicated service at the national level. Merry also received her Golden Rose at the 2018 National Convention recognizing 50 year of Delta Zeta membership.

She continues to be involved at the national level as a member of the Standards Committee and the Constitution Committee of Delta Zeta. Merry has been a member of the Houston Delta Zeta Alumnae chapter since her college graduation and has served as Recording Secretary, Parliamentarian, and Public Relations/Historian.  She became actively involved with HAPA as Recruitment Vice Chairman in 2010 and has gone on to serve as Recruitment Chairman, Corresponding Secretary, Recording Secretary, Second Vice President and Co-Chair of the Wine Tasting.    She has served on numerous committees such as Bylaws, Research & Education, Scholarship Selection, and Nominating.  She is also a member of the Fort Bend County Panhellenic. Merry was elected as a Trustee of the Houston Alumnae Panhellenic Foundation in 2016, serving as Recording Secretary for one term and then as Treasurer for two terms.  For the 2019-2020 year, Merry will serve as the HAPF President.

As her two children are proud graduates of Texas A&M University, Merry became an active member of the Fort Bend Aggie Moms Club.  She has served the club as Treasurer, First Vice President, Secretary, Hospitality Committee chair, and represented the club at various District meetings.

She and her husband, Roy, enjoy cruising and their travels have taken them to many far off places.  They also spend time traveling to the Austin area to visit their son, daughter-in-law, and two grandchildren.

She believes HAPA and HAPF are world class organizations and is proud to be associated with them.
